International Colloquium

TUTANKHAMUN AND CARTER: ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF A MAJOR ARCHAEOLOGICAL FIND

The Colloquium aims at gathering scholars interested in the study of Egyptian collections and their recent history, with a particular focus on the tomb of Tutankhamun, Howard Carter’s career, and his enrolment with art collectors.

Thematic areas:

We welcome proposals in the following thematic areas:

–          Biographical studies on Carter and Carnarvon;

–          Association between archaeology and media;

–          Archaeological methods used by Carter in the tomb of Tutankhamun and its impact on research;

–          Previous and current research on the find of Tutankhamun’s tomb;

–          The impact of Tutankhamun’s find in contemporary popular culture.

This meeting is organized by Centro de História da Faculdade de Letras (University of Lisbon) and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, on the occasion of the 1st Centenary of the opening of Tutankhamun’s burial chamber.

We accept proposals for oral communications (maximum 20 minutes). Proposals must be sent until the 30th September 2022 to  tut.carter2023@gmail.com  , with the following information:

  • name(s) of author(s);
  • institution;
  • title of paper;
  • email(s);
  • complete address;
  • 6 keywords;
  • abstract  (up to 300 words).

Authors will be notified by e-mail.
Only papers in English will be accepted.
